POSITION: Accounting Manager




REPORTING TO:
Controller


MANAGEMENT SCOPE:
Supervises a team of 2 senior accountants and 1 part- time accounting associate


SCHEDULE
35-hour work week, Monday through Friday


LOCATION
Flexible (remote or a hybrid schedule in one of Candid's offices in New York, NY; Atlanta, GA; Cleveland, OH; or Williamsburg, VA)



COMPENSATION

$85,000 - $105,000 (this range is for the NYC area and will be adjusted for other localities; additionally, factors like skills and experience will be considered)

POSITION SUMMARY

This position reports to the Controller and will lead a team of 2 senior accountants and 1 part- time accounting associate to achieve an efficient monthly, quarterly, annual close and financial reporting process for all of Candid's revenue streams. This role will have a strong accounting and operational emphasis over revenue recognition processes and controls to ensure accurate reporting of various revenue streams. This person will work with the auditors to assist with year-end audits. The position requires great attention to detail and the ability to deliver results under deadlines as well as working effectively cross-functionally in a rapidly changing environment.



RESPONSIBILITIES




  • Manage and support the full revenue cycle from invoice creation to revenue recognition, application of payments, collection of overdue invoices and accounting service desk for related tickets

  • Review monthly revenue recognition schedules, supporting journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations related to accounts receivable

  • Ensure proper revenue recognition for all subscription products, memberships, contracts, and grants. Review grant and sales agreements as necessary

  • Liaise with sales and customer success teams to investigate and resolve issues associated with the processing invoices, payments, and refunds

  • Manage and review all cash account and sales tax reconciliations - Chase, CyberSource, NetSuite, Avalara

  • Review sales report for sales tax liability assessment, State tax returns in Avalara and registration renewals

  • Review regular and ad hoc reports to provide details of revenue streams

  • Support reporting of financial information to funders and answer accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data

  • Make recommendations to streamline existing accounting processes and procedures, and update revenue recognition handbook as needed

  • Manage preparation of all reports and supporting documents for annual audit. Work closely with Controller and auditors to complete a timely and clean audit

  • Provide input and support on implementation and enhancement of IT systems which directly and indirectly impact accounting and finance functions

  • Manage performance of staff by setting goals, and providing ongoing training

  • Special projects as assigned by Controller and VP of Finance






    REQUIREMENTS




    • Bachelor's Degree with a major in Finance or Accounting

    • Minimum 7 years of accounting experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory role

    • CPA preferred


      HARD SKILLS


      • Technical knowledge of U.S GAAP, especially in revenue recognition primarily related to Software service subscription arrangements and SaaS revenue accounting preferred

      • Strong understanding of accounting principles and reconciling data discrepancies

      • Experience working for a software as a service (SaaS) company or non-profit with earned and contributed revenue preferred

      • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) including advanced Excel skills

      • Experience with financial systems: ERP (NetSuite or similar) and CRM (Salesforce or similar)


        SOFT SKILLS


        • Strong attention to detail, exceptional organizational skills, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills are a must

        • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and collaborate for problem resolution with internal staff while maintaining positive working relationships

        • Ability to work independently and tackle multiple priorities simultaneously

        • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills

        • Flexibility during closing periods to meet deadlines

        • Willingness to perform other duties and special projects as needed/requested

        • Sensitivity and respect for racial, gender, sexual orientation, and cultural differences
