Location:Newport News, Virginia, United StatesDate: Mar 9, 2023Job DescriptionThis is an exciting and unique opportunity for employed full-time Community College, High School and middle-school educators and career/guidance counselors in the local Hampton Roads, VA area. This is a professional developmental opportunity for regional educators; continuing education credits are available. Selected candidates will spend two consecutive work weeks this summer as employees of Newport News Shipbuilding; working inside our shipyard learning how we build your nation's nuclear aircraft carriers and nuclear submarines During those two weeks, those selected will work closely with various departments engaging in trades vocational training and hands-on exercises. Support departments may include: Engineering, Design, Crane operations, Machining, Electrical, Painting, Pipefitting, Rigging, Sheetmetal, Shipfitting, Welding and more. The goal of the internship is to enlighten local teachers and guidance/career counselors on shipyard operations, what work is like inside our shipyard, and the multitude of shipyard career opportunities and career paths available to their students. A limited amount of openings are available.
Selected candidates will work at Newport News Shipbuilding 8 hours each day on July 10- 14 and July 17 - 20, 2023. This is a paid internship program, however benefits are not provided.
This intense internship will be EXTREMLEY rigorous and physically demanding and will require the ability to physically access a wide variety of work sites every day, including those aboard ships under various stages of construction or overhaul, including the use of vertical and inclined ladders, and may involve limited kneeling, stooping, standing, etc.
***This is an industrial heavy manufacturing environment.

U.S. Citizenship may be required for certain positions.Basic QualificationsBe a currently employed (full-time) and certified STEM curriculum middle-school, high school, Trade School/Community College instructor/teacher or guidance counselor in the local Hampton Roads, VA geographic area

Currently teaching STEM curriculum (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) or teaching vocational/trades programs.

Must be able to work 40-hours per week (Monday - Friday 7:00am-330pm for two consecutive work weeks, 8 hours each day on July 10- 14 and July 17 - 20, 2023

Successfully complete a criminal background investigation, hair follicle drug screen, and physical.

Be at least 18 years of age and a U.S. citizen
