Job Description Job Description Salary: Job Title: Middle School English Teacher Department: Faculty Status: Exempt, Full-Time, 10-month Employee Effective: February 9, 2026 Saint Patrick Catholic School is currently seeking a Middle School English Teacher to nurture and support our 5th-6th grade students in their personal and academic growth for the 2026-2027 academic year. Overview Founded in 2005, Saint Patrick Catholic School (Norfolk, Virginia) is an independent Catholic school with an enrollment of approximately 400 students in grades pre-kindergarten through eight. Faculty Expectations Model faith and service to the community Uphold the schools vision of being authentically Catholic and warmly ecumenical Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to establish servant leadership opportunities Promote a culture of respect for all members of the community Responsibilities Teach foundational grammar concepts such as parts of speech, sentence diagramming, punctuation, and syntax Integrate grammar instruction into writing, reading comprehension, and vocabulary lessons Develop and administer meaningful instructional plans and school curriculum that is aligned with the schools academic and developmental standards Develop students' skills and competencies in the English language, literature, composition, reading, and journalism to students Encourages students to think independently and impart critical English language skills through intentional classroom discussion Promote a classroom environment that is safe, respectful, and conducive to individualized and small group instruction and student learning Develop weekly lesson plans and instructional materials, and translate lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction Conduct ongoing assessments of student learning, and modify instructional methods to fit individual students needs; conduct individual and small group instruction as needed Provide constructive student feedback and grades in accordance with school policy and procedures Continue to acquire professional knowledge and learn about current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievements, and attendance as required by school procedures Ensure effective communication with students and parents; encourage collaboration and provide regular feedback (both written and in-person) to parents Coordinate with peers, especially within grade level, to evaluate and assess the curriculum Attend regular faculty and department meetings; contribute to teamwork and positive morale Participate in faith formation experiences Perform other duties as directed by the school administration Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of creating a classroom environment that motivates and develops student skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and critical judgment, which are fundamental in communication Experience with classroom management and working with digital technologies Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, possess strong interpersonal skills, and be able to solve problems without sacrificing relationships Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds, climb stairs, bend, crouch, crawl, stoop, and run Committed to serving as a role model for students Education and Experience Bachelors or Masters degree in Education, English, or a related field. 2-4 years of teaching experience, preferably in an English Department Licensed by the Virginia Department of Education (preferred) Benefits Competitive salaries based on experience Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance plans Disability and Life Insurance Plans Legal Resource and Accident Plans Retirement plan with up to 5% company match Saint Patrick Catholic School is an equal opportunity employer and considers all applicants for positions without regard to race, color, sex, age, national origin, veteran status, disability, or genetic information.
