2022Job DescriptionThis position will work in the Engineering and
Design Division (E&D). E&D is made up of 9 divisions that
support every current program and the future growth of Newport News
Shipbuilding, including: Virginia Class Submarines, Ohio Class
Submarines, Columbia Class Submarines, Ford Class Carriers, Nimitz
Class Carriers, and the next generation attack submarine design.
E&D is looking for candidates to achieve our goal in producing
the highest quality products and services while transforming
current processes and procedures through innovative technical
solutions and sharing ideas. The ideal candidate will meet the
basic qualifications as well as be able to communicate effectively
and work well on a team.
Selected candidates will have the opportunity to interview via live
video or attend an in-person July hiring event in Newport News, VA.
This position is to fill multiple openings across E&D
Departments to support HII-NNS mission. NNS is offering up to
$5,000 sign-on bonuses and up to $5,000 in relocation (for new
hires that live 50 miles or greater from Newport News, VA) for
select engineering positions. The sign-on bonus and relocation
incentives are for external new hires. Current NNS employees are
ineligible.
Analyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their
related fabrication and application processes to develop and
optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or
application in structures, systems and subsystems. Applies
principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop
metallic, non-metallic and composite material and processing
specifications, fabrication and assembly processes. Develops,
analyzes and applies material properties and design allowables,
processing processes and quality engineering specifications.
Material analyses may include failure analysis of components,
systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and
requirement specifications. May review and approve subcontractor
material processing procedures.Basic Qualifications0 Years with
Bachelors in Science- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a
Bachelors Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited
program.
