ENGINEER MATERIAL PROCESS 1Location:Newport News, Virginia, United StatesDate: Sep 9, 2022Job DescriptionThis position is within Newport News Shipbuildings Coating Technology and Materials Engineering department, specifically dealing with repair, maintenance, and overhaul of active duty submarines. Responsibilities will focus on corrosion assessment, repair and prevention, and candidate will have the opportunity to couple hands-on practical activity with interpretation and development of technical specifications, procedures, and training documents. Job responsibilities will include specification research, application of industry standards, and technical oversight of trade processes.Analyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems. Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic and composite material and processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes. Develops, analyzes and applies material properties and design allowables, processing processes and quality engineering specifications. Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications. May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures.Basic Qualifications0 Years with Bachelors in Science- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelors Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • This position will directly support waterfront trade activities, candidate should be willing to split time (50/50) between the office and outside jobsites in hot / cold weather and potentially dirty environments
  • Ability to carry out practical application of engineering fundamentals
