Job Summary:
Sanford Federal, Inc is looking to hire qualified Doctor of
Osteopathic Medicine that is Sports Fellowship trained, to serve as
the team physician and work with Christopher Newport's Head
Athletic Trainer to provide care for all medical needs of
student-athletes.
Qualifications:
- Must be a graduate of an accredited school of medicine and
licensed to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Have received post-graduate and residency training from a
program approved by the American Medical Association (AMA).
- Possess current CPR Certification from the American Red Cross
or the American Heart Association.
- Must possess appropriate credentials and licenses or
certifications as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia. The
parties to this agreement shall abide by all federal and state laws
and standards dealing with confidentiality of patient information
and patient rights.
- It will be the responsibility of the candidate or candidate's
employees assigned to provide transportation to and from
location(s) where services are requested.
Duties:
- Provide a designated primary care physician, preferably a
Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine that is Sports Fellowship trained,
to serve as the team physician and work with Christopher Newport's
Head Athletic Trainer to provide care for all medical needs of
student-athletes.
- Provide an on-site physician for all of Christopher Newport's
home football games.
- Provide an on-call physician (within 10-15 minutes) for all JV
home football games.
- Provide an on-campus physician for all Christopher Newport's
home men's lacrosse games, including any post season hosted
contests.
- Provide an on-site physician for all post season Conference
Tournament and NCAA Championship events hosted by Christopher
Newport University.
- Provide a physician (2-3) times per week for on campus athletic
training room visits for at least 30 minutes each time. At least
one (1) of these visits should be by the designated primary care
physician.
- Provide on-site access to physicians for special events, as
mutually agreed.
- Provide office evaluations within 24 hours for student-athletes
that cannot be seen by a physician during on-campus visits.
- Provide priority access to diagnostic tests (within 24-72
hours) to include, but not limited to, x-rays, MRI's, bone scans,
CT scans, office visits, EKG's, ultrasounds, bone density test, PRP
shots, strep and mono testing, flu shots and sickle cell
testing.
- Maintain accurate and updated electronic medical records of
treated student-athletes and share this information with the
Christopher Newport sports medicine staff.
- Provide all post-concussion evaluations and clearances. Assist
the Sports Medicine team with return to play and return learn
protocols.
- Provide electronic prescriptions, as necessary.
- Provide one (1) certified athletic trainer for an average of 30
hours per week during the academic year, at mutually agreed upon
times. The parties understand that hours may vary by week based on
the athletic schedules.
- Serve as a resource to the Sports Medicine 24hours a day for
emergent care questions.
- Provide appropriate staff (Physicians, nurses, office staff,
etc.) for the athlete pre-participation exams held on client campus
as necessary during the assigned times of year and hours necessary
to complete them. This candidate will not replace the ability of
student-athletes to have access to the campus medical center as
medically necessary.
- Provide up to 25 hours of nutritional consultations and/or
educational sessions per academic year, as requested by Christopher
Newport athletics staff, addressing topics to include but not
limited to supplements.
- Provide resources on trending topics that affect student
athletes to include but not limited to concussions.
- Provide access to CPR certification/recertification sessions to
Christopher Newport's full-time athletic staff.
- Establish a point person to coordinate with the CNU sports
medicine team on all/any insurance issues.
- Provide a trained first responder at Christopher Newport's
sport club home contests, as determined by the Director of
Recreational services.
