Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia is
currently seeking a full-time Technical Specialist (MT/MLS).
Overview
Works under the supervision of the supervisor and/or manager in the
area of responsibility or the Laboratory Director depending on the
facility organizational chart. This position performs technical
procedures in the laboratory with excellence and participates in
all technical aspects of test quality control, performance, review,
and documentation. Also serves as a resource for instrument
maintenance and troubleshooting with proper documentation. The
technical specialist assists in the quality assurance program by
collecting and analyzing data in conjunction with the supervisor
and/or manager and assisting with the implementation of systems
improvements. The position participates in all aspects of
Proficiency testing and in maintaining a constant state of
readiness in the department to meet all Standards for accreditation
from College of American Pathologist (CAP), DNV, State, OSHA, CLIA,
etc. The technical specialist assists in the training of new and
existing personnel as well as students. The technical specialist
may also be responsible for managing the clinical rotations of the
MT/MLT students. The technical specialist may be asked to assist in
the writing of Standard operating procedures, and employee
competency evaluations. The technical specialist assists in the
inventory and purchase of required supplies utilizing cost savings
initiatives whenever possible. Other duties may include staff
scheduling. The technical specialist adheres to hospital and
departmental policies and procedures; maintains a professional
demeanor and exhibits a positive attitude. May perform other duties
as assigned.

to: validation testing, performance of proficiency samples,
preventative maintenance, QC documentation,
Temperature Checks, method comparisons, etc. Demonstrates
compliance with laboratory QA/QI program.
