Job Title: RN First Assist Profession: RN Specialty: First Assist Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: AM Hours per Shift: 10 Hours Experience: - 3 years of experience in a perioperative setting - 2 years of hands-on pediatric knowledge and skill - 1 year of experience in cardiothoracic operative nursing preferred License: - RN licensed Certifications: - CNOR certification - PALS certification Must-Have: - Graduate of an accredited RNFA program - Ability to scrub and circulate Description: The RN First Assist works in collaboration with surgeons and healthcare team members to facilitate optimal outcomes for patients undergoing surgical procedures. The RN functioning as a first assistant in surgery operates in an expanded perioperative nursing role. This role provides developmentally appropriate patient care using the nursing process under the direct supervision of the surgeon. The RN applies knowledge, skills, and critical thinking necessary to assist in performing safe operations. Develops individualized nursing plans of care in response to specific patient needs within a defined scope of practice and AORN standards. The RN must be available to work four weekdays out of the week and participate in a rotating call schedule that includes weekdays and weekends.
