Job Description & Requirements - Specialty: Labor and Delivery - Discipline: RN - Start Date: 04/06/2026 - Duration: 13 weeks - 36 hours per week - Shift: 12 hours, nights - Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview - Shift: Nights, 3x12hrs - Hours: 36 hrs/wk - Start Date: Apr 6, 2026 - Length: 13 weeks - Openings: 1 Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring a minimum of 1 year of L&D experience, fetal monitoring proficiency, and the ability to work night shifts with every other weekend and major holiday coverage. Details - Inpatient Labor & Delivery unit within a hospital setting - Unit consists of 10 LDR rooms, 2 triage rooms, and 2 ORs - High-acuity patient population including patients with language barriers, substance use disorder, chronic conditions affecting pregnancy, HELLP syndrome, and preterm labor; serious complications are transferred to ICU or stepdown - Patient ratio of 1:1–2 - Administers magnesium (mag) drips - Uses peripheral IVs, warmers, GE monitors, pulse oximetry, and blood glucose monitoring - Epic EHR is used (experience preferred) - 12-hour night shifts on a 36-hour per week schedule - Every other weekend required - Major holiday coverage required - No on-call responsibilities - Occasional floating to Mother/Baby unit possible - Team typically consists of 3 RNs and 1 tech per shift, including a mix of experienced staff and nurses newer to L&D Requirements - Active RN license (VA state or compact) currently in hand - Current BLS and NRP certifications required - Minimum 1 year of L&D experience required - Travel nursing experience preferred, with at least 2 prior travel assignments strongly preferred - Fetal monitoring experience required (certification not required) - Must be proficient with IV starts - Must be able to circulate for deliveries (scrubbing not required) - Proof of address required (acceptable documents: Driver's License, Voter Registration Card, Federal Income Tax return, Military Form DD-2058, or W2 from the US government) - 1 supervisory reference required - SSN and DOB required for consideration - Copies of certifications required Additional Information - Conducts initial and ongoing patient assessments, develops and implements individualized plans of care, and evaluates nursing interventions - Performs electronic fetal monitoring, vaginal exams, and provides care for the mother/fetal dyad - Supports breastfeeding education and provides discharge teaching and planning for patients and families - Administers medications and coordinates care across hospital departments - Orientation follows the BSMH Orientation Calendar B - EKG exam is not required for this position - Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position - First-time travelers are not preferred; at least 2 prior travel assignments are strongly preferred American Traveler Job ID P-687278.
