Part-time Description The Virginia Zoo, founded in 1901, is located in Norfolk, VA and is home to more than 700 animals representing over 150 species. It resides on 53 acres and is mostly outdoors with an indoor World of Reptiles exhibit, 3 classrooms, and an indoor restaurant and gift shop. The Virginia Zoo is looking to welcome to the team a Birthday Party Host! As the Birthday Party Host, you will be responsible for making every party a memorable experience by setting up, decorating, singing happy birthday, serving food, setting up games, and cleaning up. In addition, they ensure parties operate within the scheduled time slots assigned to ensure adequate transition times between parties. Schedule Requirements: Saturday & Sundays 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM Candidates must have flexible schedules and the ability to work weekends. This is a part time, non-exempt, position that is limited to no more than 16 hours per week. Duties/Responsibilities: Preparation, set up, and cleanup of event space for incoming birthday parties. Greet and escort incoming party to reservation area. Maintain time schedule throughout event. Assist Animal Ambassador Specialists throughout event (Providing hand sanitizer and crowd management) Provide event reports to events coordinator at end of day. Resolve any day of event issues that may occur. Other duties as assigned. Requirements Required Skills/Abilities: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent time management skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to function well in a fast-paced and at times stressful environment. Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED At least 2 year of customer service experience required. At least 1 year working in events or party rental space preferred. Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of standing and moving. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds capacity at times. Additional Requirements Must be confident, energetic, and self-motivated with a desire to deliver outstanding customer service. Ability to maintain a professional appearance and manner. Ability to work in a team environment or alone for extended periods of time. Able to work indoor and outdoors in all weather conditions.
