This position will serve as a Test and Field Engineer for Advanced
Weapons Elevators. The primary function of this job is to verify
that the final assembled system meets operational requirements by
writing and performing government approved Test Procedures.
However, a significant portion of the job involves grooming and
troubleshooting electromechanical components. This is a very hands
on position and it requires a unique ability to lead a diverse
group of engineers, technicians and production tradespeople to
problem resolutions. About 50% of the job is performed in a heavy
industrial, shipboard environment; the other half is spent in an
office environment writing and evaluating technical documentation.
This position requires the flexibility to work rotating shifts and
to sail with the ship for up to three weeks (every other month).
Position is eligible for overtime pay and night shift
Synthesizes customer contractual needs and requirements into system
test solutions that acknowledges technical, schedule and cost
constraints. Develops and directs preparation and execution of
comprehensive test plans, procedures and schedules for completing
systems. Coordinates integrated testing activities. Reviews and
evaluates test requirements to insure completeness of test program.
Performs technical analysis of complete systems and prepares
comprehensive system level evaluations.
5 Years with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years
with PhD.- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree
in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Additional Details and Competencies:
--- Experience leading AWE/SE groom and test evolutions both
pier-side and underway
--- Lead engineering evaluations and troubleshoot a variety of
electrical and mechanical components
--- Experience leading the operation of major equipment in a
--- Effectively communicate with both internal and external
customers, including Waterfront Construction Management, Design and
Construction Engineering, Test Engineering, SUPSHIP, NAVSEA and
--- Capacity to evaluate problems relative to impact on the overall
plan/schedule and formulate mitigating action plans

schedule, and quality with respect to the company's product
