Description Performs supervisory and inspection work for the Stormwater Construction Section of the Stormwater Operations division. Coordinates and participates in the inspection of drainage construction projects. Reviews as-built plans and coordinates final inspection activities. Ensures all applicable ordinances, specifications and standards are maintained. Assists contractors and the general public in the interpretation of construction plans, specifications, policies, and ordinances. Leads public outreach on drainage issues while providing exceptional customer service. Minimum Qualifications Graduation from high school and 3 to 5 years of experience in progressively responsible construction inspections including supervisory experience, or any equivalent combination of education. A bachelor's degree in business, public administration, engineering technology, or information technology is preferred. Must have comprehensive knowledge of heavy equipment operation, including the operation of large excavators, dozers, crawler/loader, dump trucks, and other commonly used construction equipment. Thorough knowledge of modern construction practices and procedures, particularly those dealing with pipe and drainage work, and experience with overhead and underground utilities required. Must have the ability to obtain certification in Stormwater Management and Erosion Control Inspection from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality within one (1) year of employment. Possession of valid Commercial driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia with satisfactory driving record. Personal computer experience using Microsoft Office software required. Experience using Hansen asset management software desired. Supplemental Information Much of the work associated with this position is performed outdoors in all types of weather conditions with exposure to the usual hazards associated with outside construction work. This position is considered an Essential Position (County designation as ALPHA) which requires the employee to report to work during inclement and extreme weather conditions, often outside normally scheduled work hours. Physical Demands Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including calculators, telephones, two-way radios, surveying and drafting equipment and various hand tools.
