Type: General Public - G Job Duties This position is based at the
Williamsburg Equipment Shop in Williamsburg, Virginia but may be
required to work in other locations within the Hampton Roads
District.This position is an hourly/wage position. Wage employees
may not work more than 29 hours per work week/per month on average
over the course of a year and are limited to 1500 hours within a 12
month period. This position does not include the state benefits
package.The Hampton Roads District is seeking an Equipment Repair
Technician to diagnose, repair, inspect, and maintain motorized and
mechanical construction, highway maintenance, grounds, and
automotive equipment of all types.The Core Responsibilities of the
position include: Diagnosis and Repair -- Diagnosing vehicle and
equipment failures using electronic testing equipment, service and
equipment repair manuals and on-line resources. Performing repairs
and overhauls to all types of automobiles, equipment and tools to
include engines, transmissions, driveline components, electrical
and computer systems, fuel injection systems, air conditioning,
heating and ventilation systems, hydraulic systems, pneumatic
components and air brakes. Recommending outsourcing for major
repairs when needed. Virginia State Inspections -- Performing
safety inspections under the guidelines of the Virginia State
Police Inspection program for vehicles and equipment. Preventive
Maintenance -- Performing preventive maintenance on vehicles and
equipment according to PM schedule and guidelines. Making repairs
as needed when deficiencies are found and, or recommend
outsourcing. Welding Repair and Fabrication -- Designing,
fabricating, modifying, and welding components to repair, rebuild,
or replace parts. Emergency Operations -- Preparing equipment for
emergency operations. Making equipment repairs to reduce downtime
during emergency operations to include on-the-road repairs.
Information Processing and Paperwork -- Preparing, processing, and
maintaining require maintenance and repair documentation.
Generating, completing and closing-out work orders in computer
system. Performing time and leave entry. Preparing parts requests.
Completing paperwork for warranty inspections and repairs.VDOT is
an emergency response agency, therefore you will work outside of
normal work hours during emergency operations. Minimum
Qualifications for the position include: -Knowledge of the
diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of automotive, construction, and
maintenance equipment.-Knowledge of cutting, welding, and
fabrication operations.-The ability to operate various types of
light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks; and use equipment and tools
in a safe and efficient manner.-The ability to independently
perform major repairs and maintenance on a variety of diesel and
gasoline powered trucks and equipment.-The ability to read and
comprehend service and equipment repair manuals, gauges and testing
devices.-The ability to perform heavy manual labor.The ability to
maintain accurate records and reports.-Having skill in the use of
computers, hand and power tools, and advanced electronic and
computerized diagnostic equipment. Preferred Qualifications for the
position include: -Having a high school diploma or GED with
vocational or technical training in automotive and equipment repair
and diagnostics preferred; equivalent experience or training may
substitute for education.-Experience repairing and maintaining a
variety of automotive and construction equipment.-Experience using
cutting and welding equipment. ASE certifications
preferred.-Holding a Virginia State Inspection License, refrigerant
recovery and recycling certification, and/or Class B CDL. Special
